Analysis of the Effect of Intralesional Steroid Injection on the Voice During Laryngeal Microsurgery

Background and Objectives Vocal fold (VF) scar is known to be the most common cause of dysphonia after laryngeal microsurgery (LMS). Steroids reduce postoperative formation by inhibiting inflammation collagen deposition. However, clinical evidence whether steroids are helpful in reducing VF LMS still lacking. The purpose this study determine intralesional steroid injection helps voice quality.Materials Method This was conducted on 80 patients who underwent for polyp, Reinke’s edema, leukoplakia. Among them, 40 were set as group, had similar sex, age, lesion size alone control group. In each stroboscopy, multi-dimensional program, Aerophone II, handicap index (VHI) performed before 1 month surgery, results statistically analyzed.Results There no significant differences distribution symptom duration, occupation smoking status between Both groups consisted polyp (n=21), edema (n=11), leukoplakia (n=9). On disappeared amplitude mucosal wave symmetrical both sides VFs all patients. Acoustic parameters VHI significantly improved surgery there difference group results.Conclusion acoustic, aerodynamic, subjective evaluation
